Planners to hear 1 industrial, 2 commercial expansion proposals Monday night

Plans for a doubling in size for a local manufacturing plant, an 81-room hotel and a new workout gym are all on the discussion agenda for Monday night at the Peachtree City Planning Commission.

Gerresheimer-Wilden Plastics is asking for approval to add several buildings totaling 182,645 square feet to its existing plant on 16 acres fronting Ga. Highway 74 South in the Peachtree City Industrial Park.

According to the map accompanying the plans, the proposed expansion more than doubles the size of the current facility.

Wilden is known as the European market leader for manufacturing medical drug-delivery plastic systems.

According to its self-description in the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce, “We develop and produce high-quality specialty products made of glass and plastic, primarily for the pharma and life science industry. In addition to specific primary containers for a wide variety of substances and medicines, our product and service portfolio comprises complex drug delivery systems. We are one of the few companies in our sector to specialize equally in both of the major primary-material categories of importance in this demanding market, i.e., glass and plastic.” The plant was acquired by Gerresheimer in 2007.

Wilden’s property is already zoned for the expansion and would not require any further approval by the City Council.

That’s not the story for the proposed four-story, 81-room Fairfield Inn within the Wisdom Point retail center off Hwy. 74 North at Wisdom Road.

The 2.8-acre parcel is already zoned General Commercial, but the applicant is planning to submit a rezoning proposal that would allow the building height to exceed 35 feet.

“The location of a future hotel is also identified although no details have been provided for this development,” the planning documents state.

Fairfield Inn and Suites is owned by Marriott International of Bethesda, Md., which also owns the Courtyard, Springhill Suites, Residence Inn, Town Place Suites, and Marriott Executive Apartments chains, as well as the super-luxury Ritz-Carlton.

Also on the workshop agenda this Monday night: World Gym is closing one location just east of Peachtree City and and is asking permission to build a new replacement facility close to McIntosh High School inside the city.

“The proposed development would include a freestanding 21,875-square-foot fitness center and a total of 102 onsite parking spaces, which are in addition to those already in place along Lexington Circle,” according to plans on file with the Peachtree City Planning Commission. “Access to the property would be from the existing traffic circle on Lexington Circle.”

The 2.28-acre site is zoned limited use commercial and abuts the Lexington Village townhomes to the north and Governors Row subdivision to the west, the proposal states.

The proposed new two-story building would include an indoor pool. The new facility would replace the older World Gym about a mile to the east on Ga. Highway 54.

Plans show the new facility would look much like the World Gym on Commerce Drive and Ga. Highway 74.

“There are no plans to close or relocate [World Gym’s] existing facility on Ga. Highway 74,” the planning document states.

The workshop will begin at 7 p.m. Feb. 11 in the council chambers at City Hall.

If you believe that !

the closing of the gymn outside the city tells you something and how can they possibly think the city can support two inside. Another building goes up and vacant within months, why not find a facility already vacant and a way to use it.

pumpkin agrees and that Kool-Aid tastes great!

There are even TWO Atlanta Fitness locations in Newnan within less than 1 MILE of each other! Oh My God how is this all possible? Maybe it's because private investors think it will make money? Maybe they think it's better to spend more money and build something new than take over some existing land that isn't in any way possibly suitable for their use? Nooooooo, that couldn't be it?

Will you please get a clue already? Why not shut up your vacant head/mouth combination and find a use for that?

Haddix: World Gym

The existing World Gym on 74 in West Park will be closed. I am concerned about that being vacant. I hope part of the plan to move includes a buyer for the existing property.

While I cannot speak for Dar Thompson, I am guessing combining the exercise and pool facilities into one building was a key element of the move. But, as I said, pure speculation on my part.

The kick off with Planning was last night. Some comments were made by Planning to get the best possible for the city.

This sounds like a definite statement of FACT, instead of wild speculation that you later referred to in another post that some Planning Commissioner mentioned. Good Grief!

The other World Gym that is actually being closed ain't in PTC, but I guess you're a Mayor Without Borders considering the huff n puff over Sam's Club.

I'm sure Dar will be along soon to straighten you out on this.

Let's Clarify

Have you ever heard the joke where the guys sends a postcard of the planet-earth to his ex-girlfriend, the caption reads "wish you were here".

Currently we (World Gym) are in the middle of a $300,000 expansion of our location on highway 74 and I own the building. The positioning of that club in the market-place is strong and the building or business is not going anywhere. We've actually looked at ways to expand outside the current footprint that we now have.

I have made a business decision to explore an opportunity to move the Hwy 54 location (which is outside of Peachtree City) into the Lexington Park area, which is inside the PTC city limits. This decision, if I decide to move forward, will hopefully bring some economic stimulas to the Lexington Park area. Furthermore, this positioning will allow me to increas the size over my current location by about 9000 sq ft and will offer our members and the city something bright amd new. It will also allow me to own the real-estate instead of simply renting an existing building.

In closing, this is by no streatch a done deal, I continue to look at all options. What is a done deal, is that the Hwy 74 location is going absolutely nowhere and is here to stay! PTC is not losing a building but will likely be gaining one.

Haddix: Thanks

For the clarification, Dar. I know you came in a little late to the meeting and left when your section was done. That didn't give me a chance to talk to you.

Maybe at the next Planning Commission Meeting we will get a chance to talk.

Mayor Hope You Make This A Priority!

Mayor Haddix, one thought "follow the money" - "follow the names"!

Digest what type comments, how they are being presented, the common slurs, and venomous language used after your postings. You know I think I was wrong, you are right..... you should continue to follow this venue, time permitted, continue to post and clarify this hollow villainy . "They" are all present. Occasionally I see one, perhaps two, of the money shakers slither in with a messiah type comment that support the above "They", but not factually. Thank goodness that's where you come in.

No worries

Mayor...I will be more than happy to discuss this project with you.

I believe this will be a better location (inside PTC) for the fitness-center and hopefully with the added traffic (about 600 check-ins per day), it will create some interest in the area and only add to the economic interest of businesses on the Lexington side of Hwy 54.

I look forward to working with the city to get this project moving toward completion.

What "CLARIFICATION?" Puke.

Good Lord, it had already been announced publicly that the World's Gym on 54 would close if the next World Gym Taj Mahal got approved in the Lexington Dead Zone.

UGH! The only clarification was that you indeed grossly misstated your totally wrong opinion as "FACT" right here when you were talking out of your backside yet again with no "FACTS" at all.

What part of this total lie that you posted is in any way factual:
"The existing World Gym on 74 in West Park will be closed. "

That really hurts good development or businesses locating here a LOT when you do crap like this.

Who do these statements benefit?

What is your point with all this mis information you placed here?

Either way, your misstatements are not good for business in our town...

Haddix: Well

There was a comment by one person at the Planning Commission the West Park facility would be closed.

So, time will tell if the person or the article was correct. Either way, there is going to be another empty building.

Open mouth; insert foot. You one dumb SOB, Haddix

Why you show up here is beyond me and any other person who has been Mayor of PTC. Keep your hands off the keyboard. Can you or anyone else imagine Joel Cowan or Herb Frady or Fred (the real mayor) Brown or Bob Lenox or even Logsdon showing up on this site spewing the crap that put out?

"One person at a planning commission meeting said - "Westpark would be closed" and you thought it would be a good idea to repeat that? Methings that you are a moron. Go away. Please. Soon.

Get your facts straight

Quote from the above article:

The proposed new two-story building would include an indoor pool. The new facility would replace the older World Gym about a mile to the east on Ga. Highway 54.

Plans show the new facility would look much like the World Gym on Commerce Drive and Ga. Highway 74.

World Gym in Westpark is closing! OMG! WWGD? WWHD?

Oh wait, it was just the mayor getting his buildings and Highways mixed up. This guy is a little bit troubling being the mayor of our fair city. Can we get a replacement? Soon? Sooner? Soonest?
