Elizabeth B,
Although I understand your concern and frustration, I can tell that you do not have a dog, or at least one that you leash-walk. No disrespect intended here, but I wish I could get my dog to pee on command, really I do. Sometimes I have to walk him for a while (away from my property) and then suddenly he goes. Sidewalks unfortunately are usually built between an owner's property and their mailbox, so it's not like we can steer clear of mailboxes. When a dog suddenly starts to pee, what would you have us do? Maybe pick them up mid-flow?
My advise to you would be to plant flowers back from the sidewalk and enjoy watching those dogs from your living room.
I sit in my living room, watching through my window the neighbors who walk their dogs up and down the street, stopping to lift their legs at my mail box and wet the plants that I spent 2 days putting into the ground. Most of the plants or dead or dying now from their abuse. If I were to go up and down the street passing water on their mail box flower beds I would be arrested. Why aren't they? How disrespectful of your neighbors is that? There is a cart path, lined with trees and bushes, right down the street? Is it legal for me to catch my water in a cup and pour it on their plants?
to have worrying about dogs urinating on my mailbox as my main concern.
