‘Monster’ Obama betrays Catholics

Several weeks ago I wrote a letter praising the Obama administration for denying approval to sell Plan B over the counter without age restriction. I did this in the spirit of true compromise, of finding common ground with my political opponents, a theme oft spoken of by Obama in his 2008 campaign.

How stupid and naive I feel now. Obama is now requiring all organizations except strictly religious institutions (meaning, churches themselves) to provide free insurance coverage for contraception, sterilization, and abortifacient drugs like Plan B.

We can’t even get free coverage for our children’s basic medical needs, but now we have to pay for any person who wants to treat pregnancy, which is a true blessing, like a disease to be eliminated or avoided.

And, the millions of dollars generated by this policy will flow freely into the coffers of the companies that make these drugs. I guess the maker of Plan B feels they are getting the last laugh.

Granted, this is not the first time I’ve felt betrayed by Obama. He is a man whose actions frequently contradict his promises, whether you’re on the right or left. But this latest act is a full-in attack of religious liberty.

While I’m sure many of you don’t agree with Catholic teaching on contraception, I’m sure most of you would agree that Catholic institutions have a right to their beliefs and should not be forced to violate their beliefs in the provision of healthcare.

I am confident this diktat will be overruled on constitutional grounds, but the betrayal I now feel by our president, government, and the Democratic Party in general is one that I think I will never recover from.

Catholics who voted for this monster should really think twice about this next election, now that we’ve seen his true stripes.

As is normal Mr. Hoffman

you make comments that just aren't reasonable. Obama is NOT attacking the Catholic Church. He is not saying they can't oppose or work against birth control. He is only saying that employers can't arbitrarily decide the medical issues they choose to cover or not cover. I know that someone who is as much an ideolog as you are can't actually see beyond your own hateful biases, but where would we draw the line? What about a company that believes in non-smoking being allowed to deny any coverage of a smoking related illness to an employee? Or a company that believes in zero population growth denying coverage for the third child?
So what about the whole "attack on Catholics" thing. The law doesn't require birth control be used, it simply leaves it up to the individual. You know, "keep the government out of personal lives." If you are Catholic, work for a Catholic institution (or any other institution for that matter) and don't believe in birth control, simply don't use it. But if you are not Catholic, and work for a Catholic institution, they simply can't deny you your right to medical care. Seems clear to me.
All your rhetoric about an attack on religion is so implausibly stupid. Can you please tell me one example that ANY religion is denied by law the right to freely practice it? Oh I know, I know...... you can't say prayer in public school. Really???? How about this, God knows our thought. Do we really need to say a prayer out loud for God to hear? Of course not. There is no law banning silent prayer ANYWHERE! You just can't have public school sponsored prayer. And before you get totally " up and locked" think about this, if teacher led prayer (or student led prayer) was allowed in a public school, how about a Muslim teacher requiring a break in the day for all students to bow east to Mecca. Would you support that Mr. Hoffman?

Birdman...

I didn't know birth control was a 'medical issue' or how anyone REQUIRES or NEEDS it; sounds like a personal choice. If you CHOOSE to work for a Catholic organization you should be apprised that due to their RELIGIOUS TENETS, their insurance policy will not provide for this VOLUNTARY choice. If you have proof that pharmaceutical birth control is a medical necessity, please let me hear it; I'm not a doctor. Otherwise, the Federal government has no right to involve themselves.
