PTC police to enforce no parking rules on private property

Businesses near McIntosh have problem with illegal golf cart parking

To deal with some McIntosh students parking their golf carts illegally on private property, the Peachtree City Council has added a new ordinance to its arsenal.

Now, Peachtree City police will be able to issue citations to golf carts and other vehicles that are illegally parked on private property. Police Chief H.C. “Skip” Clark told the City Council Thursday night that the department would focus on educating students the next few weeks with warnings, but after a period of time citations will start to be issued.

At the beginning of this school year, the City Council created its first-ever no parking zone along a cart path to alleviate problems that occurred when students parked off a path near McIntosh. So more students began parking their golf carts along Prime Point, where parking is allowed, but some also began parking on grassy and landscaped areas owned and maintained by businesses in the area, Clark said.

Without the new ordinance, police were powerless to take any action on golf carts that were parked on private property, leaving the property owner with few options beyond paying to have the vehicle towed, Clark said.

When a citation is issued under the new ordinance, either the cart driver or the cart owner will be cited, Clark said.

Clark noted that the school has maximized the number of spaces to be made available this year, but still there are far more golf carts than spaces available on campus.

The police department will work with the school to announce the change and a grace period will immediately commence for likely a couple of weeks, Clark said.

The new ordinance was adopted unanimously by council.

No golf cart parking spaces left...

God forbid, but gasp......they might even have to walk to school if their Mommys can't drive them 2 or 3 blocks.

how about this novel idea!! Have the kids ride the bus which we provide through our tax money. Problem solved!

A thousand carts (students) would require how many buses and drivers if carts banned?
How about cars? Teachers could ride buses! Let the principal ride a Cadillac or a Honda.

Now, if we did away with schools (as did Iraq) then our taxes would really go down, wouldn't they?
Do you really need a car or cart?

Parking at high school

Can anyone imagine the inconvenience caused by lack of parking? Parents have to get up earlier to get the kids off so they can park; kids make enemies for blocking others; citizens hate kids for parking in their yard; kids get soaked when it is raining; and on and on.

Why don't you simply do what you would like to do and say NO CARTS at school?

Solving problems doesn't seem to be a skill in that area.

The maybe, might, possibly threat of tickets for maybe possibly sometime, tickets, is another case of bologna (baloney).

Does council have a place to park?

build a multilevel garage for just carts...that's the only soution for the FCBOE...build it where the carts park now. Charge a toll to park in there and it will pay for itself. BOE gets it's money back over time, students have a covered place to park and not get ticketed and neighbors don't get bothered. Build one at Starr's Mill, too. It might even make money for the BOE in about 20 years or so.

Kids with golf carts already pay for the privilege to park. I believe it's somewhere around $60 to $70 per year?

The money collected from McIntosh golf cart parking goes to pay for a parking monitor....at Sandy Creek.

Seems Sandy Creek can't afford to pay for their own parking monitor.

Chrispy - We seem

We seem to agree on this, if someone uses parking then they should pay for it. It would be a pretty simple financial model to see if there is a reasonable return on this investment. Only problem I see is the declining student populations in Fayette.

moelarrycurly /very good idea

Creating more parking would be a win win. Also, parking along the paths adjacent to the school was not that big of a problem. It could be managed to not be a nuisance.

It is beyond ridiculous that

It is beyond ridiculous that there is NO golf cart parking at Starr's Mill. We bring golf carts to football games and many after school events.
Let's give thought to some of these things.

Have you ever seen a school where enough parking was provided in the original plans? Developers provide most of the land for schools but they aren't worried about parking and neither are the school officials.
